Incredible how fast time flies! Cashare celebrates its 12th birthday today and can be celebrated as Switzerland's fintech pioneer!!!
Who would have thought when we started the Cashare project in 2007 as the first P2P lending platform in Continental Europe.
The Beginnings
We remember: at that time, Facebook was just sweeping over to Europe, there was no iPhone yet, online orders were (if at all) – due to fear that credit card data could be stolen – almost exclusively paid by invoice.
Traditional banking was also going its normal respected way, because it was still the time before the financial crisis. The looks from EBK representatives (now FINMA) when we presented our project idea are unforgettable to this day.
Processing credit business directly between private individuals via the internet, without the bank as intermediary... An unimaginable business idea for wide circles of traditional bankers and also regulators.
Fintech as a New Industry
Much groundwork was done by Cashare, education was provided and new possibilities were shown. Gradually, a tender plant called Fintech developed.
Completely new business models – which also use modern technologies – came onto the market and an increasingly stronger and more diverse community developed in the traditional financial industry. Fintech companies became a new veritable branch of the economy.
Our Development
Cashare also continued to develop during this time and holds the flag of innovation high. Not everything always worked smoothly and many highs in the company's history were also replaced by lows.
In addition to private loans, Swiss SMEs have also had access to an alternative financing option for a few years and have become more independent of banks. Investors support the Swiss economy directly with their loans.
